Amazon Adventures

Jungle Expeditions

  • Sitting down for a drink of chicha with an indigenous family deep in the rainforest you will understand that the forest and their way of life has not changed for thousands of years! You can learn something of the plants that have inspired many of our 'modern' medicines and the people that first discovered them.
Using the rivers to gain access to the area we camp at night and from our campsites you can hike deep into the forest to see the animals and birds, as well as the spectacular trees and plants of the area. Everything is green and grows!

Using traditional dug out canoes we explore hidden lagoons deep in the forest to search for caymen, fish for piranha (catch and release), and watch monkeys swinging through the trees.

Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve  &  Sustainable Tourism

About 2% of this Amazon Rainforest lies within Ecuador's borders in the foothills of the Andes, and you are currently in this 2% which although it is a small proportion, it contains about a third of its diversity!.

The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve protects (603.380 hectares). Located just on the Equator, in the northeast area of the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest, Cuyabeno is home to some different communities each one with its own cultural identity.

In Cuyabeno it is possible to identify over 500 different species of colorful birds starting from tiny hummingbirds to the majestic Harpy Eagle, which is found just in the rainforest, there are 240 different species of plants in one hectare, each one with a specific practical and medical use. Jaguars, Monkeys, Anteaters, Sloth, Dolphins ( Inia Geoffrensis and Sotalia ), Manatees and Armadillos, are just some of the mammals that live in the Cuyabeno reserve. Amazing anacondas and fer de lances are some of the reptiles found, and the caimans too. Piranhas, Catfish, the gigantic Arapaima (reaching over 2 meters), and other species of fish thrive here in the black water rivers and lakes. The Cuyabeno  Reserve provides homes and habitat for countless plant and animal species as well as for Indigenous communities such as Sionas, Secoyas, Kichwas and Cofanes.
Wander amongst ancient trees and take time to explore flooded forests buzzing with wildlife.
